What is SEO and how does it work
If your business has a website already, you may have heard quite regularly that you need SEO to make that Organic Traffic to your site happen… But what is Exactly SEO?
Well, SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process done over a long period of time to achieve the goal of obtaining an Organic Traffic on your website due to Google, Bing or other search Engines ranking system.
How it works is that, let’s say Google, have certain algorithms that make sure that the results you see when you search anything online will be relevant to your search and that it has quality content you will find useful.
That Ranking system requires a website to have what it’s commonly known as “Authority”.
The Authority is provided for your website through various processes and techniques that your SEO Expert will utilize over time, that will basically tell Google: “Hey, look, we do have good Content and Authority… bump us up, please.” And that’s exactly what you want to happen.
Moz summarized it like this:
An important aspect of SEO is making your website easy for both users and search engine robots to understand. Although search engines have become increasingly sophisticated, they still can’t see and understand a web page the same way a human can. SEO helps the engines figure out what each page is about, and how it may be useful for users.
Elements of the SEO Process
- Quality Content
- Website Optimization
- Design & Ease of Use
- Keywords Studies
As you can see on this list, the first and most important thing to focus on is Quality Content. That point is KEY to a very effective SEO. All the search engines focus their attention on how good, useful and impactful your content really is. They also take notice of how often your website publishes an article or get’s updated. Guaranteeing that will give you 50% of success in the eyes of the major Search Engines.
Now, Website Optimization is also very important. A poorly optimized website will run slow, be unresponsive and will not retain any visitor for more than a few seconds (Typically 5 Seconds). Google, Bing and other SE will take notice of this, and consider your website to be not up to the standard to be ranked in a high position… Basically, your website will be bumped down far away from the first 2 Search Pages. As you might know, that’s not a good thing to happen. SEO Experts will take care of this rather early in the SEO process since it’s paramount for a good performance overall.
This point is extremely relevant in the SEO world. Backlinks are simply links to your URL address published on external websites. For example, your website’s URL address is www.example.com. An article published by www.SecondExample.com with your URL in it is considered a backlink. Now, this resource is pretty important simply because when Google or Bing see your URL in a third party site, they automatically assume your website must be of quality since people are publishing it… It is considered more or less like Word of Mouth. If somebody mentions you, it must be because you must be relevant in some way.
Design & Ease of Use
This factor will influence, as does your Website Optimization, how long a user will keep snooping around your pages, or go away and never look back. Nobody likes a hard to use or to understand website. A confusing maze of information and messy graphics will turn off any user that comes across your website. On the other hand, if your website is professionally developed and focused on making the user experience satisfactory, those users will stay longer since we, humans, tend to hang around what we enjoy. The longest a user hangs around your website, the most noticeable that website becomes to the Search Engines.
And finally, Keywords Studies. This process is central to the SEO process. Your website visibility is based on words that are used in your Business Industry or Niche to locate those services. These words are not random, far from it, but are words that will come out of a deep and steady study performed by your SEO Specialist which once found, will be included all around your website so Search Engines can tell that your website is indeed part of that industry and can show it to the relevant users search.
